We have owned this fridge for less than 2 years and it recently broke down. We lost all the contents of the fridge ($100's) and the repair cost us over $200. The problem was the evaporator fan. I read the warrantee and it claimed to cover the evaporator. When I called Amana to get the repair covered they told me that they only cover the evaporator coil, not the fan. The manual and warrantee document did not make this distinction. Even so, this is not an inexpensive fridge and it should go more than 2 years without breaking down. After 5 years, the refrigerator looks terrible. Instead of white, it is a multiple-colored panel of off-whites. The surround around the ice maker/beverage counter has faded to an off-white, the inside to a grayish white, the hinges to a yellowish white and the handle to yellow. No more American appliances. It's another industry where quality has taken a back seat to cheap. In addition, there is only ONE TEMPERATURE CONTROL which is located in the refrigerator. Upgraded models have dual controls for the refrigerator and freezer which I believe would be better. The back of the refrigerator where the cover plate is located is MADE OF TIN. The cover plate is made of cardboard not metal.
